CGVA determines divisions for play based upon the volleyball skill levels of registered teams and the overall compositions of teams registered.  For scheduling purposes, CGVA will ONLY create divisions with a multiple-of-3 number of teams.  For example, the Intermediate division will only have 3, 6, 9, 12, etc. teams.  If a multiple-of-3 number of teams is created with free agent players leftover, and that amount of players is not enough to create another 3 teams, then those left over players will be required to join a pre-existing team.  Otherwise, those players will be waitlisted for the Spring 2016 League.  Players may request a refund at any time.

Beginner/Recreational

NAGVA Rating: Only B division players are allowed to play with each team. (If more decide to play we will adjust accordingly)

Most players will become familiar with all rules, fundamental skills, and play using a simple rotation.  Some players may demonstrate a stronger caliber of play in a specialized position such as setter, hitter, defensive specialist, or libero.  However, other players may still be developing some fundamental skills such as passing, blocking, and hitting. Teams play together to begin fundamental on offensive and defensive strategy.

Intermediate

NAGVA Rating: Only B rated players are allowed to play with each team.

Most players are familiar with all rules, demonstrate competency with fundamental skills, and play using either a 5-1 or 6-2 rotation.  Some players may demonstrate proficiency in a specialized position such as setter, hitter, defensive specialist, or libero.  However, other players may still be developing some fundamental skills such as passing, blocking, and hitting.  Intermediate teams play together to execute offensive and defensive strategy consistently.

NEW: In the event that a large number of Intermediate teams register this season, CGVA will schedule all Intermediate teams randomly during weeks 1 and 2. Then we will use the win-loss records from those matches to split the division into Upper and Lower Intermediate for the remainder of League Play and Tournament play.

Advanced Division

NAGVA Rating: Only B, BB, A, Mod A upper division players are allowed to play. (Anyone who has a lower rating must be asked by an advanced captain to play in this division.)

Most players are familiar with all rules, demonstrate proficiency with fundamental skills, and play using either a 5-1 or 6-2 rotation.  Players demonstrate specialized position such as setter, hitter, defensive specialist, or libero and work together to execute offensive and defensive strategy consistently and competitively.
